The 12th DHC+ Summer School - AUG 25-31, 2024

The 12th DHC + Summer School will take place between 25-31 August 2024 in Linz, Austria, and will focus on "Industrial urban symbiosis as an enabler for climate-neutral district heating." Achieving a net-zero energy system needs a widespread transition to renewable sources. District heating (DH) can significantly rely on low-temperature energies like geothermal, solar thermal, waste heat, or ambient heat. Waste heat, currently one of Europe's largest energy resources, poses a key challenge due to its occurrence outside DH network operators' sphere of influence. Overcoming information gaps, fostering trust, and finding suitable business models are crucial steps to utilise waste heat effectively. Implementation success also depends on technical factors such as direct integration, storage and post-heating technologies. Industrial urban symbiosis emerges as an essential concept, facilitating collaborations between industrial companies and DH operators to leverage ecological and economic benefits. This cooperation aims to optimise waste heat utilisation and enhance overall sustainability.

For the first time, the DHC+ Summer School goes to Austria! Beyond academic sessions, experience the culture of Linz and enjoy the hospitality of our host – Energieinstitut an der Johannes Kepler Universität Linz. Get ready to be inspired and connect with peers in this enriching learning experience! Explore previous DHC+ Summer School editions to discover how this programme provides students and young professionals with opportunities to engage and learn from experienced speakers, fostering in-depth knowledge about the district heating and cooling sector.

Our mission is to provide a unique learning experience in the realm of district energy. Stay updated and connect with fellow participants by following #DHCSummerSchool24 for news and developments!

Heating buildings by burning fossil fuels causes significant emissions of greenhouse gases. Many states already recognize the need to move away from this and have established climate action goals to help.

ASHRAE, with support from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), has developed a series of 17 webinars designed to engage and educate all stakeholders involved in community heat pump system design and implementation. The webinars, bearing 1.5 continuing education credits each, are free.

The ASHRAE / NYSERDA Community Heat Pump Systems Webinar Series is divided into five relevant topic sections. Click on any of the topics to learn more and register.
